In a world that never stops moving, rest can feel like a luxury we can’t afford. But for believers, rest isn’t just a physical need—it’s a spiritual invitation.
Jesus calls us to rest.
In Matthew 11:28 (NIV), Jesus says:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
This rest isn’t only about sleep or taking a break from your to-do list. It’s about placing your heart in the hands of the One who holds all things together. When life feels overwhelming, we often try to fix everything ourselves. But Jesus simply says, “Come to me.”
Rest is part of God’s design.
God modeled rest on the seventh day of creation. He wasn’t tired—He was showing us the rhythm of life He created for our good.
“By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.”
— Genesis 2:2 (NIV)
We’re not made to go nonstop. True healing—emotional, spiritual, and physical—requires us to slow down and be still in God’s presence.
Practical ways to find rest in Christ:
-
Start your day in the Word.
Even 10 minutes with Scripture can reorient your heart and mind. Try reading a Psalm and praying through it. -
Take Sabbath moments.
If a full day of rest isn’t possible, set aside pockets of time to unplug and focus on God’s presence. -
Talk to someone you trust.
God often brings healing through connection. A Christian therapist or counselor can help you navigate what’s weighing you down with biblical wisdom and compassion. -
Let go of perfectionism.
You don’t need to have it all together to come to Jesus. He meets you exactly where you are.
“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”
— Isaiah 40:29 (NIV)
No matter what you’re walking through today, rest is not out of reach. It’s a gift from God—and it’s waiting for you.
