I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Oklahoma since 2003, and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) since 2001. I obtained a bachelors degree in Theology from Criswell College in Dallas, Texas in 1990. I completed my Master’s Degree in counseling at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC in 1999. I performed my internship at East Carolina University, then supervision at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire for four years, providing therapy to college-aged clients for a wide range of presentations, including depression, anger, trauma, sexual identity, substance abuse, academic achievement, career decisions, and psychological concerns.

In 2002 I moved back to my hometown of McAlester, Oklahoma. I worked as Counselor-Spiritual Care Coordinator for Hospice, counseling terminal clients and their families. While there I provided in-home psychological and spiritual support, specializing in grief, coping skills, meaning/purpose evaluation, and life review using cognitive-behavioral interventions. In January 2005, I opened a private practice where I provide confidential counseling, assessment, and referral services to adults and children. In 2013 we expanded to a Mental Health Clinic, adding therapists specializing in couples, family, and group counseling.

Our office is private, quiet, handicap accessible, and provides a relaxed, comfortable environment. We strive daily to provide our patients with care, respect, honesty, integrity and empathy, helping them reach their goals, overcome life’s challenges, and live a happier, more fulfilled life.

At some point, we all find ourselves struggling to get past a problem, whether that problem is with an important relationship, or a personal emotional challenge. I counsel from a non-judgmental perspective and utilize a client-centered approach. After all, therapy is about YOU! I strive to create an atmosphere of mutual respect, honesty, and trust with all my clients. My focus is in Couples Counseling, using proven techniques to get relationships back on track. In addition, I work with individuals in crisis and help provide stabilization and restoration during these difficult times. In my treatment of these and other life interfering disorders, I make use of evidence-based practices and techniques including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I believe in a holistic approach to health and that all components of one’s life are connected.

I have experience treating ADHD, Anxiety, Anger Management, Adjustment Disorders, Depression, Suicidal Ideation and many other emotional issues. My experience also includes working with individuals exposed to trauma, abuse and neglect as well as helping patients prepare for weight loss surgery. One of my strengths is Marriage Counseling to assist in creating healthy marriages and families.

My career includes many years as a teacher of children, adolescents and adults. After leaving the education field I returned to school and completed my LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) post-graduate work. I have been married to the same man for almost 30 years and together we have two grown children. After teaching in Houston, TX for two years, we moved back to the great state of Oklahoma where I taught for eighteen more years. During that time I earned a Masters in education under the umbrella of Counseling in 2002 from East Central University in Ada, Ok. In 2008 I returned to ECU and finished the coursework for the LPC program in 2009. I have worked as a Career Guidance Counselor, a Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Specialist (BHRS), and now I am a very happy Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). My goal in therapy is to help others navigate their complex worlds in order to live a healthier, happier and safer life. I work with you to help you achieve your goals.

Lacey Parker, LMFT Intern

Everybody has become ill at some point in their life. Life can wear us down physically and emotionally. The mind is apart of the very same physical body that gets worn down and needs some TLC. Your body needs a doctor at some point in life, so it comes as no surprise that your mind will eventually need a doctor too. In this fast paced society where there is little room for personal refuge, we can find ourselves struggling. This does not mean that we are weak, it means we are HUMAN and exactly the way God created us to be. God created us to have a relationship with Him and with one another. There is power in knowing how to utilize a strong support group when times get tough and we can no longer rely on our own resources. My training takes this concept to heart. I want to help utilize that support for you and your family! I am specially trained to empower, motivate, and strengthen individuals, couples, and families. I will work to solidify the bonds that connect you. I recognize that everybody comes from different walks of life and I strive to meet them where they are. After all, YOU are the expert in your own life! This being said, I have experience working specifically with teenagers and kids dealing with grief, behavioral problems, and body image issues. I have worked with many substance abuse clients and have had the privilege to work with families adjusting to life with a down syndrome, autistic, or ADHD child. Since I spend some of my days in Shawnee doing therapy in a college setting, I have spent many hours working with adolescents and the stress and anxiety that accompany college. No matter what your ailment may be, no matter what setting or who is involved, I believe in a collaborative approach in which we work together!

My career up to this point has included working as a cheerleading coach for many years in Choctaw and Owasso. I traveled around during this time to aid other schools such as Henryetta, Shawnee, and Strother to name a few. This ignited my passion for working with adolescents, and it is a passion that grows stronger consistently. I have also worked as a nanny for children with special needs for a number of years in the Norman and Midwest City area. This time of my life gave me invaluable experience in understanding the struggles of families with one of these members. All throughout this time I attended college. First, at Mid-America Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas, then transferred to Shawnee, Oklahoma to begin my schooling at Oklahoma Baptist University. After graduating with a bachelors degree in Pre-counseling and a minor in Cultural Anthropology, I decided to pack my bags and head to Lijiang, China for a time as a missionary. I came back and began my graduate degree program at Oklahoma Baptist University as a Marriage and Family Therapist.
